I came across this insightful image the other day. It’s so good that I had to share it and write a few thoughts about it.
This thought not only applies to us in our profession, but it applies to every area of our lives.
This simple yet profound message highlights a common pitfall in our industry—seeking advice from individuals who have never done the things you want to do.
On the other hand, there are many who lack a deep understanding of our business or what it takes to build a world class firm, give lectures and commentary on what and how you should do things. Too often, financial professionals look up to advisors, mentors, or influencers who might be charismatic and well-spoken but lack the necessary skills, experience, and insight into the unique challenges we face. Many are still distributing advice on a world that no longer exists.
To build a successful and sustainable practice, it’s crucial to align yourself with credible, world-class mentors and platforms. These are individuals and organizations that embrace change, innovate, overcome obstacles, invest in themselves and their businesses and are making a real and happy difference in the lives of people. Their insights are rooted in real-world experience, hard earned skills and not just theory.
Look for mentors who have a deep understanding of the financial industry, who have built and scaled successful firms, and who continue to stay ahead of industry trends (in short, they chase excellence and are truly world class). Collaborate with platforms that offer advanced tools, comprehensive solutions, and a community of seasoned professionals. These resources can provide you with the guidance, support, and innovation needed to thrive.
Remember, the journey to excellence in financial services is challenging, but with the right guidance, it’s achievable. So, choose your mentors wisely and seek advice from those who have truly walked the path you aspire to tread. Your future self, and your clients, will thank you.
