You may be thinking “What does he mean by behaving like your metabolism”?

I promise I have a finer point that you will find useful.

The term metabolism means the chemical processes that occur within a living organism to maintain life. In simple terms, we all live because of metabolism. The word “metabolism” has evolved from the Greek word “metabole”, which means “change”.

Now imagine we are ALIVE because of the change happening within us.

What about our work, firms, and the industry we operate in? The industry will continue to change. New Firms, New Regulations, New Business Models and Newer (and better) competitors will all come. In short, the external world is changing. This means the industry’s metabolism is working.

What about you and your Firm’s Metabolism? Is your professional metabolism working?

Are you accepting change or resisting the metabolic processes that are happening?

When we resist metabolism, we die.

One of my favourite quotes is by Charles Darwin and is hung on our office walls “It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent; it is the one most adaptable to change.

Action Point – Invest 10 minutes thinking about this question “How are you going to improve your metabolism?”
