There is an interesting lesson on long-term thinking by the Roman philosopher Musonius Rufus. I don’t recollect where I had read it but it’s so good that I had to share it with you.
“If you accomplish something good with hard work, the labour passes quickly, but the good endures; if you do something shameful in the pursuit of pleasure, the pleasure passes quickly, but the shame endures.”
Think about this in the context of the work we do…
A new thing feels difficult. We think about all the work we need to put into it. But here is the thing.
What if this effort makes a real difference in the lives of your clients and yours?
The labour passes quickly but the good endures for a long time.
The good – blessings of clients, opportunities coming from different directions, share of heart 100% share of wallet, career opportunities for your team, a very valuable world class firm and many others.
There is so much of upside in all the good that you can do in this world.
What’s then holding you back from doing what needs to be done?
